DeepMine: State of the Art Mine Planning Software to Maximize the Value of Mining

State of the Art Mine Planning Software to Maximize the Value of Mining

ABOUT DEEPMINE

DeepMine is the culmination of a long effort for innovation and development. This software is a tool of strategic planification for open pit operations. It has been developed through the support of several entities such as: Codelco´s World Class Suppliers, CORFO and Microsoft BizSpark. DeepMine counts with the most advanced calculation capacity in the market and a powerful visualization system that make it capable of generating flexible and robust mine plans that consider the materialization of economic uncertainties. This software represents a key progress in strategic mine planning in comparison to other options in the market.

The cutting-edge engine of DeepMine is based on dynamic approximate programing. This option makes it possible to explore multiple possibilities for creating the best outcome for each configuration of the mine. Through this approach the value of the operation is maximized considering the temporal value of money and the existing opportunity costs. At the same time, the operative viability of the mine is guaranteed.

DeepMine does not assume that the nested Lerchs-Grossman pits are a feasible sequence in the practice. Additionally, it does not require designed operational phases since the software generates them automatically. These phases can be used as a guide for mine design as they make the process easier and avoid early compromises that could detract the value of the operation. The DeepMine algorithm takes into consideration the operational viability as the strategy returns to the central scenario.

Another distinctive characteristic of DeepMine is that it can deal with uncertainties from the very beginning. Hence, strategic mine plans in stochastic technical-economical scenarios can be developed. This enables the possibility of introducing flexibility in the mining strategy using Real Options for increasing the potential value of the mine.

  • Once the phases and the extraction plans have been generated, the progress of the mine can be visualized year by year.

Deepmine App Functions

  • For each phase and each year, the following can be visualized:

– Destination of each block

– Economic value of each block

  • For the mine plan associated to the best set of phases, the following can be visualized:

– Mine movements

– Plant movements

– Stocks evolution

– Cash flow

– Tonnage-grade curve according to phase-bank

DeepMine 4.0 also makes it possible to incorporate the risks associated to the block model, the operation, and the market for deriving robust strategic mine plans.

RISKS ASSOCIATED TO THE MINE PLAN

A distinctive quality of this tool consists in the incorporation of risks to the plan generation process.

These risks may be incorporated in the mining environment by considering the following components: prices, ore grades, rock density, metallurgical recoveries, plant costs, transportation costs to the plant, mine costs, transportation costs to the dump.

The mentioned uncertainties can be simulated through incorporating in the software a distribution of their respective parameters.
